If you’re looking for inspirational off-site options to schedule during upcoming Winnipeg meetings and conventions, few are as rewarding as enabling delegates to volunteer their time and give back to the community. Many different agencies throughout the city are looking for volunteers, all of which provide a gratifying outing for groups of all sizes and abilities. What’s more, the satisfaction of helping others in need creates a powerful team-building experience that will leave a lasting impression with your delegates.
If you’re looking for opportunities to volunteer your time, we have some impactful venues where your next group can roll up their sleeves and help make a difference.
United Way Day of Caring
United Way of Winnipeg offers a partnership program with one of their many agency partners or non-profit organizations through their Day of Caring program. This innovative project is designed to allow volunteers to have an impact on the city’s social and community development, while engaging in a positive team-building environment. United Way of Winnipeg can tailor these events to meet your group’s goals, time commitments, number of participants, and preferred activity type. Whether it’s organizing a community barbecue, helping to build neighborhood communal gardens, or painting an agency’s office – there is no shortage of good deeds for your delegates can take part in.
The Day of Caring initiative is best-suited for five to 20 volunteers, and require 2-4 weeks’ advance notice so that United Way of Winnipeg can work with you to find a suitable activity for your group.
Winnipeg Harvest
Help hungry families get much-needed food by volunteering your time at Winnipeg Harvest. This non-profit agency also works to end the need for food banks in Canada and is a vocal advocate for lifting individuals and families out of poverty, which you will hear about during a pre-volunteer shift facility tour. Your group’s volunteer shift will include sorting bulk items and produce, to ensure the quality of the food being delivered to families in need.
Volunteer shifts at Winnipeg Harvest can be for up to 25 people at a time. Plan to book your group at least a few months in advance, as space and availability is limited for the 90-minute volunteer shifts.
Siloam Mission
Providing meals, beds, and care for the homeless is what drives Siloam Mission. The charitable organization provides meals to over 600 people every day, with over 90 per cent of the food they serve being donated. The organization relies heavily on volunteers, meaning there are many opportunities for your delegates to donate their time. Group volunteer activities are always available and being updated on Siloam’s website, with activities ranging from sorting through donations to helping prepare meals, or even hosting recreational activities.
Most volunteer opportunities at Siloam Mission can work with up to 10 people at a time, but larger groups can work on multiple projects simultaneously.
