What do you love about Winnipeg?
I was born and raised in this city but spent most of my time in the St. James and Charleswood areas. Now that I'm older, I enjoy exploring different neighbourhoods, especially our vibrant downtown, the historic Exchange District or Saint-Boniface. It's amazing to see the history and culture of the city and how much it has grown since I was a kid. We are such a diverse community with so many different people coming together to create something great.
What's the best part about working for an organization that showcases the city?
I love working for the Tourism Winnipeg team at EDW because everyone works together. And it's nice to see all these puzzle pieces fit in to create something big for the city. I'm excited for the opportunity to work here, help promote Winnipeg and bring more events here.
What new things can conference or event delegates get excited about for their next trip here?
So many fun attractions are waiting for you in Winnipeg, like The Leaf, where you can experience three different biomes in one building or the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, which is such an inspiring space. And then, of course, our diverse culinary scene where you can find something for everyone in almost every neighbourhood.
What is your favourite local restaurant?
It's hard to choose just one. Winnipeg has such a diverse and high-quality culinary scene! The first thing that comes to mind is The Forks, which features one of Western Canada's largest patios and numerous offerings. But if I had to choose one place, it's a brewery. It's Kilter. I love Kilter. That's my go-to.
Favourite local beer?
I'm an IPA girl. The hazy IPA at Kilter is my favourite—the Juicii.
What are some upcoming conferences of note in Winnipeg?
We have a few coming up. I'm personally excited about the 2024 Taekwondo Canada National Championships and the 2024 Plant Canada Conference.
What are you looking forward to this fall in Winnipeg?
I absolutely adore Halloween, and to make things even more exciting, my birthday falls just before it. Winnipeg has quite a few haunted attractions, and I make sure to visit them all. My first stop is usually Six Pines, followed by A-maze-in Corn's Haunted Maze. Finally, I make my way to Heebie Jeebies, my favourite. Their haunted attractions are the scariest of them all. Fall, in general, in Winnipeg, is a beautiful time of year. We have a lot of foliage, so we watch the leaves turn from green to red, yellow or orange. It's kind of magical.
