Believe it or not, life’s a beach in the prairies, and when the city gets hot locals often flock to the countless surrounding lakes along with the white sand beaches of Lake Winnipeg – the 12th biggest lake in the world.
On the opposite side of the lake and equally charming is the community of Gimli, a fishing and resort town that was settled by Icelanders (it even features a prominent Viking statue in the middle of the town, while the majority of the town’s inhabitants are blue-eyed blondes – we kid you not). Summer activities include swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and kiteboarding, while winters can be just as fun for snowmobilers and cross-country skiers.
Explore the wildlife and wonders of Churchill with a fall expedition on the specially designed Arctic Crawler along the coast of Hudson Bay with curious bears approaching for a photo, or adventure out onto the Bay by boat in the summer to view the bears and beluga whales in their natural habitat.
