There’s no doubt that Winnipeg is a city filled with sports fans. Some of the most passionate fans of the National Hockey Association (NHL), American Hockey Association (AHL), Canadian Football League (CFL), and American Association (AA) independent baseball league all have long histories in Winnipeg, while the up-and-coming Canadian Premier League (CPL) will be bringing professional soccer back to the city starting in 2019.
With games from all major North American sports happening throughout the year, your delegates can get in on the action – in some of the finest sports amenities you can find.
Hockey at Bell MTS Place
Few things are more Canadian than hockey, and few places are better for hockey than Winnipeg. Bell MTS Place, located on Portage Avenue in the heart of the city’s downtown, is one of the busiest event venues in North America – and that means multiple opportunities for a group outing.
The arena’s managing company, True North Sports and Entertainment, offers group discounts on hockey games for the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and AHL’s Manitoba Moose – as well as many of the touring events that are performing there. The list updates regularly with new opportunities for your delegates to take advantage of a group discount, taking in the action at one of the dozens of home hockey games. Party suites are also available to catch a game at Bell MTS Place, where your delegates can take advantage of theatre-style seating, in-suite food and beverage service.
Hockey takes over Winnipeg from October to April, with a potential extension through playoff season – if you want your fans to experience something uniquely Winnipeg, keep an eye out for Winnipeg Whiteout Street Parties which would take place during any Jets home playoff game.
Football and soccer at Investors Group Field
Summer sports in Winnipeg provides an opportunity to head down to Investors Group Field, a modern facility located at the University of Manitoba that provides the ultimate experience for football and soccer games.
Home to both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football club and the new Winnipeg Valour soccer club, Investors Group Field offers a game day experience for fans that can’t be matched. A variety of suite options are available for all home games, including a super suite with capacity for up to 120. If your delegates are football fans take advantage of the Sideline Club, which includes a pregame meal, and seats as close to the action as you can get.
Discounted group seats will also be available for both Bomber and Valour home games. The CFL season runs June to November, while the all-new CPL season will run late April to October (with the full schedule being announced in February 2019).
Baseball at Shaw Park
Winnipeg is home to one of the best attended and highest energy baseball stadiums in all of independent baseball, with the Winnipeg Goldeyes slugging it out in the AA every summer. Shaw Park, located just between the Exchange District and The Forks, is a splendid location to spend a warm summer evening, with a great city skyline view.
Your delegates can take in a game from the stands with a variety of discounted seating options, with options for a pre-game picnic or reserved patio. Or, perhaps you want them to take advantage of the wide selection of local food and craft beer available. Skysuites are also available, with in-suite catering available and an unparalleled balcony view of the game.
The bases are loaded at Shaw Park from May to September, with over 50 games throughout the summer.
Play a match of curling
Canada’s unofficial national sport, curling is an experience like no other. If you’re looking for a team-building exercise, why not book out a few sheets of ice at one of Winnipeg’s many rinks? One historical rink that’s located downtown is the Granite Curling Club, which also offers broom rentals.
