Winnipeg sets the stage for event success

By: Meetings Winnipeg // June 11, 2021 // Meeting Planning, Unique Offsite Venues

From large-scale conferences to championship sporting competitions, Winnipeg has an impressive list of success stories when it comes to hosting Indigenous events. More recently, Winnipeg had the opportunity to showcase local Indigenous history, culture and knowledge with delegates and participants of the following:

  • Gathering of Elders 2019 National Gathering of Elders (3,450 delegates)
  • Canadian Native Fastball Association 2019 Canadian Native Fastball Championships (1,440 participants)
  • Indspire 2018 Soaring Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering & Indspire Awards (1,000 participants)
  • Assembly of First Nations 2016 Housing and Infrastructure Forum (509 delegates)
  • Aboriginal Financial Officers Association (AFOA) Canada 2015 Conference (957 delegates)
  • Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat 2015 Meetings (125 delegates)
  • International Indigenous Librarians' Forum 2015 International Indigenous Librarians' Forum (125 delegates)

Don’t take our word for it—meeting organizers are raving about the positive experience and benefits of hosting their events in Winnipeg:

“Indspire came back to Winnipeg for the 2018 Soaring: Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering and the Indspire Awards and both events were a huge success! Soaring brought together hundreds of Indigenous youth from across Canada at the RBC Convention Centre where the staff were friendly and accommodating. The Indspire Awards were held at Centennial Concert Hall and the place was nearly sold out! We can’t wait to come back to Winnipeg!”
–  Yancy Craig, Vice President, Indigenous and Government Relations, Indspire, 2018 Soaring Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering and 2018 Indspire Awards.
“Manitoba is an awesome province, and Winnipeg is an awesome city. We have had huge success hosting events in Winnipeg, including one of the largest North American Indigenous Games in history. We take pride in being great hosts to those who visit our house, our community, our regional territory, our province. When we host big events, we put on a big show. Elders from across Canada can attest to that.”
– Mike Sutherland, Peguis First Nation, Bring It Home ambassador involved in the following events awarded to Winnipeg: 2019 National Gathering of Elders, 2019 Canadian Native Fastball Championships and 2023 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.
