True North strong and fancy
Completing Winnipeg’s SHED (Sports, Hospitality and
Entertainment District) is True North Square. Adjacent to Bell MTS
Place, this $400 million mixed use development currently features
two stunning towers, a public plaza replete with a brewery from
Lake of the Woods Brewing Company, restaurants, a cocktail bar,
a café and kiosks from some of the city’s best restaurants, and a
high-end grocery.
Northern exposure
The Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Inuit Art Gallery joins the Canadian Museum for
Human Rights as the city’s latest architectural marvel. Its interior – particularly
its vast event spaces – harkens beautifully to Canada’s Arctic, while the Centre
itself works as a hub for both reconciliation – featuring a team of Indigenous
curators and a working centre for Inuit artists – and a home to the world’s
largest collection of contemporary Inuit art.
Global gardens
Canada’s Diversity Gardens is a $100 million
indoor/outdoor horticultural attraction. The Leaf,
the Garden’s centerpiece, features four distinct
biomes encompassing 6,000 sq. metres,
offering stunning meeting and event spaces,
a café and restaurant, a huge indoor waterfall
and a butterfly garden that enchants all visitors.
